Last weekend, my boyfriend Rob and I stayed at Hotel Monaco DC for a lovely staycation. The experience was amazing!
The Monaco is a Kimpton hotel and this one in particular used to be The General Post Office back in the 1800s. Both the interior and exterior architecture is stunning! The lobby is absolutely gorgeous with vivid colors like green and black. The hotel boasts high ceilings and whimsical decorations. There is a grand stair case leading to the top floor with a skylight in the ceiling which is so dreamy.
Our room was so spacious and elegant – most striking of all was the huge lion head statue mounted above the bed. There was a lovely welcome table waiting for us with wine and sparkly water, fruit, a cheese board, nuts and macaroons. Another great feature about the hotel is that it’s dog-friendly, so we were able to take our dog Mason! The room had a dog bed, as well as dog treats, dog food and water bowl, and a leash for our use during our stay.
You can’t beat the location either. The Monaco is located in downtown Washington DC near China Town and Capital One Arena. It is literally walking distance to all kinds of site-seeing spots, restaurants, cafes, several Metro stations and City Center which offers the best shopping and dining venues! Even though we live here, we still go to be a tourist and explore the neighborhood with ease.
On our last night we decided to dine in. There is a fantastically chic restaurant/bar connected to the hotel called Dirty Habit. Their food is top-notch and we couldn’t have asked for better service.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Monaco and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone visiting DC or just needing a staycation.
